The iConverter Network Management Module (NMM) is the heart of the iConverter management system. It features a 32-bit, high performance RISC microprocessor executing a real-time operating system. It supports the SNMP and Telnet protocols and is capable of controlling and managing up to 16 managed chassis.

The NMM features a serial port for initial configuration, a front-plane RJ45 Ethernet port, a backplane Ethernet port, and a pair of multi-chassis management ports.In-Band management is accomplished via the backplane Ethernet port connecting to an adjacent iConverter module with backplane support, thus offering direct access to the NMM via the operational network. Out-of-Band management is accomplished via the front-plane Ethernet port, facilitating a secure management network. The NMM is password protected to prevent unauthorized access.

The iConverter NMM2 provides comprehensive remote monitoring, configuration and alarm notification functions for all iConverter managed media converters and Network Interface Devices (NIDs). Installed in any slot of an iConverter chassis, the NMM2 manages all other modules and power supplies installed in the chassis through a high-speed management backplane. Additionally, all remote NIDs linked to the managed iConverter chassis may be managed by the installed NMM2 through a secure IP-less management channel.

Through the 10/100 RJ-45 Ethernet port, the NMM2 can be remotely accessed by IP-based management protocols, including SNMPv1/2c/3, TELNET and FTP. The serial console port provides local access and initial configuration from an RS-232 terminal. Management is accessed either via NetOutlook, Omnitron's SNMP Management Software, or by any third party SNMP management software. An intuitive Command Line Interface (CLI) can be accessed either via the serial port or TELNET.

The iConverter 2-Module Power Chassis is a compact, versatile chassis featuring a single internal universal AC or 18-60VDC power supply. The chassis provides housing for all iConverter multi-service platform modules.

The 2-Module Chassis features a backplane that enables sharing of Ethernet data between two installed iConverter modules that are equipped with Ethernet backplane ports. This enables the chassis to support a variety of networking configurations. Installing an iConverter copper-to-fiber module and a four-port switch module provides a fiber uplink and five 10/100 user ports. A fiber-to-fiber module can be used to provide an access point in a fiber ring, supporting four 10/100 user ports.

In Enterprise networks, the 2-Module Chassis can be used to extend a fiber network connection across a campus or to add a node to an existing fiber ring. The 2-Module Chassis provides a carrier-grade solution; combining media conversion with a managed, compact edge switch.

iConverter 10FL/T Manageable Media Converter provides 10Base-T UTP to 10Base-FL Fiber conversion. It is an In-Band or Out-of-Band SNMP-managed media converter and is suitable for LAN and MAN networks where copper to fiber conversions are required. A UTP crossover switch eliminates the need for a crossover cable and facilitates connectivity to network equipment such as hubs, switches and workstations.

Management is accomplished by using a Network Management Module (NMM) that can be accessed via Telnet using the serial port through Omnitron's NetOutlook SNMP-based management software or any other SNMP software. The user can override the 10FL/T module's physical switch settings by using SNMP or Telnet to remotely configure switch-selectable parameters such as Link Propagate, Link Segment or Remote Fault Detection.
